Many of the nation’s top college wrestling programs are using MatBoss, wrestling’s premier video and statistics app, for the 2017-18 season.

“It has been very exciting to show some of the top college wrestling programs in the country our MatBoss software,” says MatBoss co-founder Tyler Hemmesch. “These programs are finding that MatBoss gives their wrestlers the best access to all of their video and statistics.”

Thirteen wrestling programs using MatBoss appear in InterMat’s NCAA Division I team rankings. The group is headlined by top-five wrestling programs Ohio State and Missouri.

Ohio State, led by Kyle Snyder, a 2016 Olympic champion and two-time world champion, sits at No. 2 in the team rankings. The Buckeyes have seven All-Americans on their roster and are positioned for a national championship run in March.

“Evaluating and assessing ourselves is critical in one’s development,” says Ohio State head wrestling coach Tom Ryan. “The ability to do that with our student-athletes was enhanced through the use of MatBoss. We also were able to grab key stats immediately following the match that assisted our staff in assessing areas of focus in the room.”

Missouri, under the guidance of NWCA National Coach of the Year Brian Smith, is ranked No. 5 in the team rankings.

“MatBoss works great for our program,” says Smith, who has served as Missouri’s head wrestling coach since 1998. “The app makes it easy to organize and download all of your team’s film. The ability to go right to the scoring situations in each match makes it easier for breaking the film down. We keep statistics on attempts and all scoring situations and this system makes it easy to log all of that data. Being able to show the athletes the film and the statistical breakdown teaches and motivates them in the areas they need to improve on.”

Other top-10 Division I wrestling programs using MatBoss include No. 6 Minnesota, No. 7 Lehigh, No. 8 North Carolina State, and No. 9 Virginia Tech. MatBoss users South Dakota State, Central Michigan, Cornell, Oregon State, Rider, Navy and Purdue also appear in InterMat’s team rankings.

“We started using MatBoss last year and it really became a time-saver for us,” says Joel Sharratt, head wrestling coach at Navy. “All of our matches are coded and uploaded virtually instantly. It gives the coaches a right-away opportunity to get online, review matches, go right to the skills they want to focus on. The other amazing part is that does all your statistical analysis for you immediately following the event.”

In Division II, nine of the top-25 wrestling programs are using MatBoss. Those programs include No. 7 Colorado Pueblo, No. 12 Findlay, No. 16 Minnesota State Mankato, No. 16 Seton Hill, No. 19 Maryville, No. 20 Nebraska Kearney, No. 23 Augustana, No. 23 Long Island-Post and No. 23 Wheeling Jesuit.

Programs using MatBoss are well represented in the NCAA Division III wrestling rankings. Of the top-25 Division III wrestling programs, 15 use MatBoss, including six top-10 programs: No. 2 Augsburg, No. 5 Ithaca, No. 7 Wabash, No. 8 Loras, No. 9 Baldwin-Wallace and No. 10 NYU.

“The biggest benefit we found with MatBoss was being able to watch recorded matches of our guys and of scouted opponents anytime, anywhere from any device,” says Wabash head wrestling coach Brian Anderson, who guided the program to a third-place finish at the NCAAs last March. “It also streamlined our season stats for the entire program. We also liked the ability to organize and store each wrestler’s matches in their own file. MatBoss is a great tool for the program at a minimal cost, and the company was very accessible, helpful and always wanting suggestions to better their service and product.”

Other top-25 Division III programs using MatBoss are No. 11 Ferrum, No. 12 UW-Whitewater, No. 14 York, No. 15 Coe, No. 17 UW-La Crosse, No. 21 Condordia, No. 22 Mount Union, No. 23 University of Chicago and No. 25 The College of New Jersey.

No. 2 Missouri Valley, No. 4 Menlo and No. 5 Campbellsville are top-five NAIA wrestling programs using MatBoss. Other MatBoss users that appear in the NAIA rankings include No. 7 Cumberlands, No. 10 Williams Baptist, No. 12 Morningside and No. 13 Baker.

At the NJCAA level, No. 2 Iowa Western, No. 14 Nassau and No. 16 Northwest Kansas Tech are among the top programs using MatBoss. Cick here to check out a list of other top wrestling programs using MatBoss »
