ROCHESTER, Minn. -- The finals are set at the 2023 MatBoss Minnesota Christmas Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota.

Saturday morning's semifinal round saw three No. 1 seeds fall in three consecutive weight classes, including defending champion Blake Beissel of Hastings at 121 pounds.

Wayzata's Luke Koenen earned a 3-1 victory in overtime over Beissel. Koenen, the No. 5 seed, will face second-seeded Titan Friederichs of Watertown-Mayer in the finals. Friederichs has been dominant throughout the tournament. He advanced to the finals with a 9-0 shutout victory over Lawson Eller of New Prague.

While Blake Beissel was upset as the top seed, his younger brother Trey, also a returning champion, knocked off top-seeded Tegan Sherk of St. Francis 6-3 to reach the finals at 127 pounds.

Another returning champion was defeated at 285 pounds, Eden Prairie's Will Sather. He fell to second-seeded Navarro Schunke of Brandon Valley, the nation's No. 5 heavyweight.

Other returning champions to reach the finals include Wayzata's Logan Swensen (133), STMA's Landon Robideau (152) and Homestead's Charlie Millard (160).

One of the most anticipated semifinals matches came down to the wire at 145 pounds. In a battle of Division I commits,  Minnesota commit Jack Nelson of Mound Westonka used a Peterson late in the match to earn a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over  Wyoming commit Tyson Charmoli of St. Francis. Nelson will face top-seeded Alex Braun of Woodbury in the finals.  

Mounds View remains on top in the team standings after going 3-1 in the semifinals. Finalists for Mounds View include Owen LaRose (107), Brett Swenson (114) and Quin Morgan (215).
